Sulyman Qardash is an Afghan artist who relocated from Kabul to San Francisco, California. Widely recognized as the founder of Kabul Dreams, Afghanistan’s first rock band, Sulyman has since launched his solo project, marking a bold new chapter in his creative journey. While his music continues to draw from his punk rock roots, it now expands into richer soundscapes infused with electronica and synth wave, reflecting the cultural and sonic experiences of his life between Kabul and California.

Beyond music, Sulyman uses his art to shed light on the complexities of identity: as a refugee, an immigrant, and an Afghan navigating life in America. Having embraced a do it yourself approach during his years in Kabul, where recording, distributing, and promoting music required resourcefulness and resilience, he now channels those skills into his independent work in the United States, taking full advantage of the wider opportunities available to today’s independent musicians. His first single, “GHSTMTHR”, released in September 2022, is available on all major streaming platforms.

In addition to music, Sulyman is a photographer and visual artist recognized for his portraits and cross cultural projects that explore identity, displacement, and belonging. His visual work mirrors the depth of his music, weaving together personal history with broader social themes to create art that resonates across diverse audiences. Growing up in a multicultural environment sparked his early passion for the arts, and today his creative expression extends across multiple mediums. His work has been featured by Rolling Stone, SXSW, UNICEF, Klat Magazine, AJ+, Al Jazeera, Central Asia OnlineMuftah, and The Juggernaut Magazine, establishing his reputation as a multifaceted artist who continues to push cultural and creative boundaries.
